Several motorists injured in accidents on roads in area

A Lamar man was injured in a motorcycle accident at 7 p.m. Wednesday on Route EE, four miles northeast of Lamar in Barton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Michael L. Forst, 35, was taken to Barton County Memorial Hospital in  Lamar, the state patrol said.

Forst was riding an eastbound motorcycle that ran off the road and overturned, throwing him from the bike, the patrol said.

• A resident of Purdy was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 44, two miles west of Sarcoxie in Jasper County, the state patrol said.

Ramon Zuno, 68, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Zuno was driving a vehicle that overturned when a rear tire blew, the patrol said.

• A Joplin woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 1 p.m. Wednesday on Missouri Highway 43, three miles north of Seneca in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Waneta L. Day, 85, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the state patrol said.

Day was a passenger in a northbound car driven by Johnnie L. Anderson, 63, of Commerce, Okla., that ran off the road and struck a ditch when Anderson swerved to avoid another vehicle, the patrol said.

• Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on Missouri Highway 86, eight miles south of Joplin in Newton County, the state patrol said.

Both drivers involved, Jeremy S. Woodrum, 40, of Joplin, and Loreen R. Huffman, 50, of Racine, and a passenger in Huffman’s van, William J. Novalany, 13, of Racine, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Woodrum’s northbound car and Huffman’s westbound van collided at an intersection when Woodrum failed to stop for a stop sign, the patrol said.

• A Carthage man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 5:43 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 71, one mile south of Carthage in Jasper County, the state patrol said.

Gorden D. Severs, 50, was taken to McCune-Brooks Mercy Hospital in Carthage, the patrol said.

Severs was driving a southbound vehicle that struck a retaining wall when he swerved to avoid another traffic accident, the patrol said.
