Scooter driver killed in Joplin crash

JOPLIN, Mo. — A scooter driver died in a three-vehicle accident at 5:12 p.m. Thursday, according to the Joplin Police Department. The crash occurred near East 7th Street and Peters Avenue, by the Target and Dollar General stores.

According to the police report, the scooter was exiting the Dollar General parking lot and pulled out in front of a Dodge SUV, which was traveling eastbound. The SUV struck the scooter and both vehicles continued for a distance, crossing over into the westbound lane where they struck a passenger vehicle that had stopped to avoid the crash.

The driver of the scooter, a 24-year-old female from Joplin, was transported to Freeman West, where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not been released at this time.

There were no other injuries reported.  

This crash is still under investigation and waiting for toxicology results, according to police.
