From staff reports
A Joplin man thwarted an attempted break-in at his home Wednesday night by holding his back door shut against two would-be intruders, police said.
Michael A. Puff, 57, told police that he heard a loud bang about 11:30 p.m. at the back of his home in the 1600 block of South Virginia Avenue and spotted two men trying to kick in his back door. Puff said he held the door shut until they gave up and left.
Police Lt. Matt Stewart said Puff thought both men appeared to be in their 20s and were about 6 feet tall. One was wearing a red sweatshirt, he told police. Responding officers were unable to locate the men, Stewart said.
