Three injured in traffic accident in Vernon County

— Three people suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 3:45 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 54, two miles east of Nevada in Vernon County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

One of the drivers, Lerri L. McFadden, 55, and his passenger, Connie J. Fisher, 62, both of Stockton, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin. The other driver, Joshua E. Holder, 19, of Jerico Springs, was taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada.

Holder’s southbound vehicle ran into the rear of McFadden’s southbound pickup truck as McFadden stopped to make a left turn, the patrol said.

• A Lamar man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday on Missouri Highway 43 in Airport Drive, the state patrol said.

Randall E. Stevens, 53, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Stevens was a passenger in a southbound car driven by Cristal A. Eccher, 34, of Lamar, that was struck in the rear by a southbound car driven by Tina L. Dalton, 48, of Carl Junction, the patrol said.

• Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 60, a mile west of Monett in Barry County, the state patrol said.

One of the drivers, Joe E. Baker, 65, of Verona, was flown by medical helicopter to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, the patrol said. The other driver, Laura D. Hood-Goodman, 38, and her passenger, Will Goodman, 6, both of Monett, were taken to Mercy Hospital Springfield.

Baker was attempting to pass Hood-Goodman’s vehicle on a motorcycle as Hood-Goodman was making a left turn, and the motorcycle struck the vehicle and overturned, the patrol said.

• A Duenweg woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9:42 a.m. Wednesday on West Seventh Street at Wall Avenue, according to a Joplin Police Department report.

Betty J. Terry, 84, was taken to Freeman Hospital West, the report said.

Terry was a passenger in an eastbound car driven by Colton N. Harbin, 15, of Joplin, that collided with a northbound vehicle driven by Greg A. Berry, 55, of Joplin, when Harbin failed to stop for a red light, the report said.

• A Carthage man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 1 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 44, a mile west of Sarcoxie in Jasper County, the state patrol said.

Leonel Moore, 21, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Moore was an occupant of an eastbound vehicle that skidded off the road and struck an embankment, the patrol said. The identity of the driver of the vehicle remained under investigation, the patrol said.
