Pittsburg police find meth lab in backpack carried by bicyclist

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Formal charges are pending against a Nevada, Mo., man who was arrested Tuesday while riding his bicycle with an alleged meth lab in his backpack.

A Pittsburg police officer at 8:25 a.m. tried to make contact with the 29-year-old man, who was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk near Fifth Street and Broadway.

The man rode away on his bicycle, but he was stopped in the 100 block of West Seventh Street and was arrested.

Police who searched the man’s backpack found a suspected mobile methamphetamine lab. He was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing meth, meth possession, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and obstruction, and was issued a citation for violating a bicycle law.
