A 22-year-old man was slashed across the forehead with a knife by an intruder he encountered late Wednesday night inside his home in Joplin, police said.
Police Lt. Matt Stewart said Daren Wilkinson was moving out of a home in the 500 block of North Wall Avenue when he returned there about 11:40 p.m. and encountered the man standing near his entertainment center.
Wilkinson told police that the intruder grabbed a knife off a counter and swung it at him, delivering a light cut across his forehead. Wilkinson said he was able to grab the man’s hand and twist his arm behind his back, forcing him to drop the knife.
Wilkinson told police that the intruder complained to him at that point that he might have broken his hand. He told the man to get out, and he ran down the alley behind the residence.
Stewart said the intruder was described as being about 5 feet 10 inches tall, of medium build and bald. He was wearing a light blue shirt and black gym shorts, and he bore a tattoo of a nautical star on the back of his hand between the thumb and index finger.
Police were asking that anyone with information about the crime or an idea as to who the intruder might be call police at 417-623-3131.
