Five arrested in drug raid outside Galena

GALENA, Kan. — Authorities served a search warrant Friday morning at a house outside Galena, seized some methamphetamine and chemicals used in its manufacture and arrested five people.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department said the raid at 8518 S.E. 90th St. was the culmination of a four-month investigation by sheriff’s deputies and the Southeast Kansas Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Chemicals were found inside the house, along with an undisclosed amount of finished product.

The occupant of the residence, Danny O’Banion Jr., 29, was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing meth, possession of the drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. John Harbaugh, 31, of Joplin, was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to manufacture meth and possession of the drug. Both men were being held without bond.

Felony charges against a man and woman from Joplin were being sought.

Misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and transporting an open container also are being sought against a 56-year-old man from Galena.
