JOPLIN, Mo. —
The Jasper County prosecutor’s office has filed a felony assault charge against a Joplin man who was involved in an altercation with another man last weekend.
James R. Hubbard, 43, is charged with second-degree assault of Johnnie L. Marn, 43, on Saturday at a residence in the 300 block of North Wall Ave. Marn reportedly suffered a skull fracture and was taken to Freeman Hospital West, according to Joplin police.
Hubbard was arrested later the same day at his home on Porter Avenue, but Jasper County Circuit Court records did not show a charge as having been filed against Hubbard until Thursday.

Newton pleaded guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to first-degree statutory rape, first-degree statutory sodomy and felony failure to appear in court in a plea agreement with the prosecutor’s office.

A suspect accused of trying to run down two Joplin police officers with a sport utility vehicle early Sunday was winged in an arm and hand when the officers shot at him in response, police said. Brandon J. Knoderer, 32, underwent surgery Monday at a Joplin hospital to remove bullet fragments from his right arm and left hand.
