Galena residents injured in accident just west of Joplin

Two residents of Galena, Kan., were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 11:05 a.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 66 at Central City Road, two miles west of Joplin, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Jeanne M. Gehring, 52, and Beverly J. Richardson, 80, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the state patrol said.

Gehring and Richardson were passengers in an eastbound van driven by Donald E. Hastings, 48, of Baxter Springs, Kan., that was struck broadside by a southbound vehicle driven by Dennis R. Key, 31, of Carthage, when Key pulled out from a stop sign, the patrol said.

• Two teens from Carthage were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 7:10 a.m. Monday on County Road 90, three miles east of Carthage in Jasper County, the state patrol said.

The driver, Lebi Mejia, 16, and his passenger, Paula Mejia, 14, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

The southbound vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree, the patrol said.

• A 22-year-old woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 6:50 a.m. Monday on Route C, two miles east of Irwin in Barton County, the state patrol said.

Kaylah D. Williamson, of Galena, Kan., was taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, the patrol said.

She was driving a westbound car that ran off the road, ran into a ditch and overturned, the patrol said.

• A Neosho man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 3 a.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 86, five miles south of Joplin in Newton County, the state patrol said.

Carl D. Moore, 23, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Moore was driving an eastbound car that ran off the road and overturned, the patrol said.
