A Joplin woman and an Ozark Christian College student were killed in a head-on collision of a pickup truck and a car at 5:32 p.m. Wednesday on Route HH at County Road 175, east of Carterville in Jasper County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Julie G. Cartwright, 48, of Joplin, and Brandon S. Stuckey, 22, of Belleville, Ill., were pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County coroner. A baby, Hayven M. Cartwright, who was a passenger in the truck driven by Julie Cartwright, escaped injury and was turned over to relatives, the state patrol said.

Stuckey’s eastbound car crossed the centerline and struck Cartwright’s westbound truck, the patrol said.

• A 40-year-old woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 10 p.m. Wednesday on Farm Road 2145, six miles north of Aurora in Lawrence County, the state patrol said.

Trina R. Lauer, of Billings, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Aurora, the patrol said.

Lauer was driving a westbound car that ran off the road and struck a ditch.
