49-year-old Pittsburg man dies from gunshot wound; suspect arrested

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pittsburg police officers are continuing their investigation this morning into a shooting Thursday night that left one man dead.

John F. Moutz, 49, was found suffering from a gunshot wound after police were called at 7:20 p.m. Thursday to a residence at 506  W. 6th St. Moutz was taken by Crawford County EMS to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, where he was later pronounced dead.

Law officers said they began searching for a female suspect and at 9:05 p.m., a deputy with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department located Carla C. Moutz, 51, near the intersection of Forest and Olive streets. She was taken into custody.

She was taken to the Crawford County jail, where she is being held pending first-degree murder charges.
