Joplin man arrested on felony charge of past sexual abuse

A 16-year-old girl’s recent disclosures to her mother regarding past sexual abuse has led to the arrest and charging of a Joplin man.

Thomas L. Crain, 45, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at the Joplin Police Station and charged with first-degree statutory sodomy.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said the girl alleged that Crain began having sexual contact with her when she was about 7, and the abuse continued until she turned 14. The girl’s mother reported the allegation to the Missouri Department of Social Services and police were contacted.

Crain remained in custody Thursday at the Joplin City Jail on a $5,000 bond.
