Newton County man facing charge of child molestation

NEOSHO, Mo. — A 25-year-old Newton County resident was charged Friday with sexually molesting a 4-year-old girl.

Police Lt. David Kennedy said Jonathan L. Coe, of rural Granby, was arrested about 4 a.m. Friday following questioning at the Neosho Police Department.

Kennedy said officers had been called to the emergency room of Freeman Neosho Hospital at 7 p.m. Thursday regarding possible sexual abuse of a 4-year-old child. He said the girl subsequently was examined and interviewed at the Children’s Center in Joplin and Coe was brought in for questioning.

The Newton County prosecutor’s office charged the suspect with first-degree child molestation. A probable-cause affidavit alleges that Coe had sexual contact with the girl at a park in Neosho.
