Man faces charge of stealing wire from old building

Two men were arrested on suspicion of stealing copper wire after police checked out a report of a burglary in progress Tuesday night inside a condemned building in downtown Joplin.

Police Lt. Charla Geller said officers responded to the former Robertson Apartments at 410 S. Wall Ave. and detained two men on suspicion of stealing wire. The Jasper County prosecutor filed a burglary charge against Willy S. Reed, 37, but declined to file a felony count against the second man.

Geller said officers located seven others sleeping in the building and arrested them on misdemeanor charges of trespassing.
