Man in jail after escaping custody earlier

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A man who had escaped from Carthage police custody earlier in the day was in jail Friday night. Nathaniel C. Norris, of Carthage, escaped about 5 p.m. Friday from the booking room at the Carthage Police Station, according to Chief Greg Dagnan.

Norris, who was picked up on an outstanding felony warrant from Newton County, was found about 8 p.m. at a home in the 1100 block of Baker Avenue, Dagnan said.

State court records show Norris faces a charge of first-degree deviant sexual intercourse with a person younger than 14 in Newton County.

Dagnan said Norris was picked up Friday on the outstanding warrant and in connection with a Carthage police investigation of four other felonies. Specifics about the felonies under investigation, along with those involving the escape, were not being divulged, but Dagnan did say that police will seek a charge of escape from custody against Norris.
