Meth arrests mount as probe continues in Southeast Kansas

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — Three more arrests have been made in an ongoing investigation into the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine in the Baxter Springs area, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department.

The department, in a news release issued Wednesday, said the arrests stem from additional warrants issued by the office of County Attorney Nathan Coleman.

Christopher J. Markley, 26, of Columbus, and James L. Tyler, 44, of Baxter Springs, were arrested Tuesday and were being held at the Crawford County Jail in Girard, pending court appearances.

Both suspects are charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth, manufacture of meth, possession of precursor chemicals with intent to manufacture the drug and distribution of precursor chemicals.

Lethea L. Gerard, 25, of Miami, Okla., was arrested July 18 and charged with conspiracy to distribute meth. She is being held at the Ottawa County Jail in Miami, Okla.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Baxter Springs police and the Southeast Kansas Drug Enforcement Task Force have made six previous arrests in the same probe.
