Name of victim released in Range Line accident

JOPLIN, Mo. — One man died in a single-vehicle accident at 9:15 p.m. Saturday at 20th Street and Range Line Road in Joplin, according to the Joplin Police Department.

Police said Rance M. Mata, 36, identified as being from the Joplin area, was northbound in the southbound lane of Range Line Road when his 2001 Ford Escape struck a traffic light support at the southwest corner of the intersection.

He was removed from his vehicle by Joplin firefighters and taken to Freeman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon afterward.

The accident is being investigated by the Joplin Police Department’s Major Crash Team.
