CARTHAGE, Mo. — The cause of a fire Friday morning that destroyed an unoccupied house in Carthage remains under investigation by a state investigator.
The Carthage Fire Department responded to a report at 3:58 a.m. of a fire in the 300 block of West Juniper Street.
Fire Capt. Kendall Terry said about 40 percent of the single-story home was in flames when firefighters arrived, but the blaze soon consumed the remainder as well.
No one was in the house at the time and no injuries were reported, Terry said. The property is owned by Evelyn McCullough.
Terry said the state fire marshal had not yet determined the cause of the fire by late Friday afternoon.
