Police caught six teenagers Tuesday night in connection with a break-in at the former Joplin Carnegie Library at 830 S. Wall Ave. and arrested them on suspicion of causing an estimated $4,000 to $5,000 worth of damage to the vacant building.
Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said several lights were broken and walls were spray-painted inside the building. Five juveniles and a 17-year-old, Johnathan W. Evans, were arrested. Evans was charged with burglary and felony property damage. The others were turned over to juvenile authorities, Niess said.
