Man charged with assault on ex-girlfriend

A 21-year-old Joplin man has been charged with a felony count of domestic assault in connection with alleged abuse of an ex-girlfriend.

Joplin police Cpl. Chuck Niess said officers were called Friday to the emergency room of Freeman Hospital West, where Tessa A. Smith, 21, sought treatment of injuries suffered in an alleged assault by her former boyfriend.

Niess said Smith told officers that Regis Richter pushed her up against a wall of the residence they share at 3902 E. College View Drive and placed a pair of garden scissors to her neck in a threatening manner. Richter was arrested at their address and charged with second-degree domestic assault.
