Three suspects are facing robbery charges in Jasper County after one of them allegedly held a young man’s girlfriend hostage while the other two took him to his bank and forced him to withdraw cash.
Arrested Tuesday morning at 6241 Ivy Road and charged with second-degree robbery were Sebastian T. Gillen, 19, of Reeds; Blake E. Franklin, 23, of Carthage; and Bradley D. Cobb, 23, of Carthage.
A probable-cause affidavit states that victims Kolby Winn and Toni Crum were visiting Gillen at that address when he became upset and accused them of stealing his hat. He allegedly began threatening them with a knife and a club if they did not return the hat, culminating in a demand that Winn pay him $60 for the hat.
Gillen had Franklin and Cobb drive Winn to his bank to get the money while Crum stayed with Gillen to make sure that Winn came back with the money, the affidavit alleges. When they got to the bank, Franklin told Winn that he had better withdraw $100 or he was going to be beaten, the affidavit states.
Winn withdrew $100 and they returned to the address, where Gillen took the cash but allegedly began slapping and punching Winn anyway. Gillen also refused to return Crum’s car keys that he had taken from her, forcing Winn and Crum to catch a ride from someone else to escape the residence, authorities said.
