Parolee arrested on molestation charges

— A convicted murderer who was paroled to Joplin a month ago has been arrested on charges that he molested an 11-year-old girl.

Police took Olen L. Robinson, 41, into custody Wednesday after the girl told child-abuse investigators that he “touched” and “rubbed” her inappropriately Tuesday morning at an address in Joplin, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in Jasper County Circuit Court.

The affidavit states that Robinson later admitted to police that he molested the girl knowing that what he did was wrong. Robinson reportedly told an investigator that while he was committing the act, he was picturing a grown woman in his mind.

The Jasper County prosecutor’s office charged Robinson with two counts of child molestation in the first degree. He remained in custody Thursday on a $25,000 bond.

Robinson was convicted of second-degree murder in the Dec. 24, 1998, beating death of a man outside a bar on Commercial Street in Springfield.

Records of the Missouri Department of Corrections show that he was sentenced April 17, 2000, in Greene County Circuit Court to 16 years in prison for the crime. He was released on parole Jan. 25 of this year and had been living at 117 N. Gray Ave. in Joplin.
