NEOSHO, Mo. —
A retired Missouri State Highway Patrol officer has turned himself in on child molestation and assault charges involving two girls under the age of 13, according to documents filed in Newton County Circuit Court.
James D. Hall, 70, of Neosho, turned himself in today at the Newton County Sheriff’s Department on charges filed by the Missouri attorney general’s office. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released. He is facing a felony count of first-degree child molestation or attempted first-degree child molestation and a misdemeanor count of assault.
Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland said the investigation began several months ago when a parent of one of the girls contacted his department. Prosecution of the case subsequently was turned over to the attorney general’s office due to the Newton County prosecutor’s office past relationship with Hall as an officer posted in Southwest Missouri.
