Pedestrian hurt after taking fall, being hit by pickup

A Barton County woman was injured in a truck-pedestrian accident at 2:22 p.m. Thursday on the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in Lamar Heights in Barton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Gertrude E. Brannon, 81, suffered moderate injuries when she fell backward from a step in front of the restaurant and landed in the path of a southbound pickup driven by Rocky G. Owen, 51, of Lamar. Owen was leaving a drive-through lane at the restaurant.

Brannon was taken to Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, the state patrol said.

• A Carthage man was injured in a one-car accident at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday on Gum Road, three miles east of Carthage in Jasper County, the state patrol said.

Jacob A. Long, 20, the driver, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Freeman Hospital West, Joplin.

The patrol said the eastbound vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree.
