A 54-year-old woman was killed and a second woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9 a.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 54, three miles east of Nevada in Vernon County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Linda S. McCartney, of Nevada, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Vernon County coroner, the state patrol said.
She was driving an eastbound car that she swung into the oncoming lane to avoid a vehicle in front of her, and it collided head-on with a westbound pickup truck driven by Shelly D. Zartman, 36, of El Dorado Springs, the patrol said. Zartman was taken to the Nevada Regional Medical Center, the patrol said.
• Another Nevada resident died of injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle accident at 1:29 p.m. Saturday on East 32nd Street in Joplin.
According to a Joplin Police Department news release, Constance S. Allard, 65, was taken to Freeman Hospital West, where she died as a result of internal injuries.
Allard was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Michael D. Marn, 24, of Webb City. Their westbound vehicle collided with an eastbound pickup truck driven by Joshua N. Balcom 33, of Joplin, when Balcom made a left turn in front of them at Stephens Boulevard, according to a police report.
Neither driver required medical attention, according to the report.
• A Seneca man was injured seriously when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a train at 10 a.m. Monday on Falcon Road, a mile east of Racine in Newton County, according to the state patrol.
Nathanaelstet G. Sampson, 69, was flown by medical helicopter to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the state patrol said.
Sampson was driving a northbound pickup truck that collided with a westbound BNSF Railway Co. train operated by Eric T. Williams, of Oologah, Okla., the patrol said.
• Three people were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 4:30 a.m. Sunday on a county road about three miles northeast of Colcord in Delaware County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The driver, Kaleb J. Mouse, 15, and his passengers, Joe R. Morris, 19, and Jesse K. Childres, 15, all of Colcord, were taken to Siloam Springs (Ark.) Regional Hospital.
The southbound car ran off the road and struck a tree, the state patrol said.
• A Carl Junction man suffered minor injuries in a single-car accident at 9:33 a.m. Saturday on West 41st Street near Joplin Avenue, according to a Joplin police report.
James E. Moran, 55, lost control of his car, and it crashed into a tree, the report said.
Moran was taken by ambulance to an unspecified hospital.
