Paroled murderer waives hearing in molestation case

— A convicted murderer who was paroled to Joplin in January waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges that he molested an 11-year-old girl.

Olen L. Robinson, 41, waived the hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court and was ordered bound over for trial on two counts of first-degree child molestation. Associate Judge Richard Copeland set Robinson’s initial appearance in a trial division for June 17.

Robinson was arrested Feb. 27 after the girl reportedly told child-abuse investigators that he had “touched” and “rubbed” her inappropriately.

The defendant had been out on parole just a month when the girl’s allegation arose. He was convicted of second-degree murder in the 1998 beating death of a man outside a bar in Springfield and had been serving a 16-year term in the Missouri prison system before being paroled.
