Charges dropped in unrelated cases

The Jasper County prosecutor’s office Wednesday dropped felony weapon charges that defendants were facing in two separate cases when their alleged victims failed to show up to testify against them in preliminary hearings.

Joseph A. Tracy, 34, of Joplin, was arrested June 25 and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm for allegedly entering an address on Stadium Drive in Webb City with a sawed-off shotgun looking for a particular woman and discharging the weapon into the ground outside the house when he could not find her.

In the other case, Edgar A. Walters, 36, of Carthage, had been facing a charge of unlawful use of a weapon related to an arrest July 18 in Carthage. He was accused of putting a knife to the throat of a man who he believed had shown disrespect to the defendant’s cousin and threatening to cut him.
