PITTSBURG, Kan. — A father accused of taking his daughter from her mother at gunpoint Friday night in Pittsburg was stopped and arrested less than two hours later in Butler County.
The Pittsburg Police Department said Alvin B. Holmes III remained in custody Monday at the Butler County Jail on a detainer bond of $100,000 in connection with the alleged kidnapping of his 6-year-old daughter.
Police said the girl was taken from her mother at gunpoint shortly after 7 p.m. Friday on North Water Street in Pittsburg. A description of the father’s vehicle was issued after the alleged kidnapping, and the car was stopped about 9 p.m. in Augusta. Holmes was arrested, and the girl was returned to her mother’s custody, police said.
Holmes has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, endangering a child and criminal damage to property. He is expected to be transferred to the Crawford County Jail later this week.
