Two Vernon County Jail employees accused of smuggling marijuana to inmate

NEVADA, Mo. — Two jail employees and a girlfriend of an inmate have been charged with smuggling marijuana into the Vernon County Jail.

Sheriff Ron Peckman announced Wednesday that charges had been filed against Joanna Roberts, 28, of rural Richards, and jail employees Colby Prough, 39, of El Dorado Springs, and James Tumm, 23, of Nevada, in connection with an alleged delivery of marijuana to the jail on Sept. 8.

“I got word of it the 13th and acted upon it,” the sheriff said.

Peckman declined to say how much marijuana was involved or how it was smuggled into the jail in Nevada.

Inmate Bob Beisly III, 38, also has been charged with a felony county of possession of marijuana at a county jail, he said. Beisly, who has been in the jail on a probation violation since Aug. 27, now faces a $100,000 bond imposed with the filing of the new charge. The warrants on the other three suspects carry $10,000 bonds.

Jailers fired

Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman said Colby Prough and James Tumm were fired Friday from their positions at the jail and arrested Monday. Deputies were still looking for Joanna Roberts, girlfriend of inmate Bob Beisly, according to Peckman.
