Cassville man hurt in vehicle accident

A Cassville man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 5:55 p.m. Monday on Farm Road 1110, a mile south of Cassville in Barry County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Eddie L. Smith, 78, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cassville, the patrol said.

He was driving a northbound pickup truck that ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned, the patrol said.

• An 8-year-old boy was injured when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car at 4:23 p.m. Sunday on Glenview Place near Byers Avenue, according to a Joplin Police Department report.

Jack Taylor, of Joplin, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West, the report said.

The boy was riding his bike southbound down an alley and rode into the path of a van that was eastbound on Glenview Place, the report said. The driver of the van was identified as Marvin B. Clawson, 49, of Joplin.
