Wigged gunman robs Quapaw bank

QUAPAW, Okla. — A lone gunman wearing a wig robbed the Baxter State Bank in Quapaw this morning, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The FBI said in a news release that the robber entered the bank at 338 S. Main St. about 9:30 a.m. brandishing a semi-automatic pistol. He ordered a bank employee to put money in a plastic grocery bag and forced all employees on duty into the bank's vault prior to his departure.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in the course of the robbery.

Bank employees described the robber as 50 to 60 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and with a slim build. He was wearing a ball cap and long, gray wig, a light-colored shirt and blue jeans.

The FBI said it was not known how the robber made his getaway. No suspect vehicle information has surfaced.

Anyone with information about the robbery is being asked to call the FBI's 24-hour tip line at 405-290-7770. Callers may remain anonymous. The Oklahoma Bankers Association is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
