A 16-year-old boy was able to pass himself off last week as a legitimate adult car buyer and drove off in vehicles from dealerships in Joplin and Oklahoma before being caught.
The juvenile went through the process and signed all the paperwork to purchase a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze from a Joplin dealership and drove the car home to Oklahoma before the dealership began to suspect something might be wrong, according to a Joplin police report.
Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said that when dealership officials contacted the boy and asked him to return to clear up some questions about the purchase, the teen drove back in a pickup truck that he purchased from a dealer in Oklahoma.
Niess said the boy was referred to juvenile authorities since he apparently did not have the means to purchase either vehicle.
