Two motorists hurt in traffic accident south of Carthage

— Two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident at 2:55 p.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 59, six miles south of Carthage, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Keith A. Coggin, 44, of Neosho, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin. Raymond A. Bousman, 70, of Shell Knob, was taken to Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage.

Coggin was driving a southbound car that crossed the center line and struck Bousman’s northbound sport utility vehicle and a northbound truck driven by Max H. Forste, 49, of Neosho, the state patrol said.

• A Granby woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 1:05 p.m. Monday on what formerly was Business Highway 71 at River Road, about mile south of Joplin, the state patrol said.

Rebekah R. Reed, 22, was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West, the patrol said.

Reed was driving a westbound car and was attempting to cross the highway, and pulled into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Joan K. Kloeppel Stephens, 48, of Joplin, the patrol said.

• A Joplin man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday on Joplin Street, two miles south of Carl Junction, the state patrol said.

Shaun A. Pritchard, 33, was taken to Freeman Hospital West, the patrol said.

Pritchard was driving a northbound pickup truck that ran off the road and overturned, the patrol said.

• A 5-year-old boy was injured when the bicycle that he was riding was struck by a vehicle at 5:45 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Water Street in Carthage, according to a Carthage Police Department report.

The boy, whose name was not released by police, was flown by medical helicopter to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, police said.

The boy was riding his bike northbound in an alley and rode into the path of vehicle eastbound on Water Street driven by Brittanie Sparlin, 20, of Joplin.

• A 23-year-old woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 2:47 p.m. Monday at Elm and Jefferson streets in Pittsburg, Kan., according to a Pittsburg Police Department report.

Veronica Patterson, of Pittsburg, was taken to Via Christi Medical Center in Pittsburg, the police report said.

She was a passenger in an eastbound sport utility vehicle driven by Ronald J. Patterson, 48, also of Pittsburg, which collided with a southbound car driven by Yamileth Linares-Argveta, 20, of Pittsburg, when Linares-Argveta failed to yield at a stop sign, the report said.
