Suspect sought in case involving area burglaries

Joplin police are seeking charges against a 30-year-old Joplin man after recovering stolen property in a vehicle he was driving.

Police said that an officer at 2:26 p.m. Wednesday tried to stop a motorist for reckless driving near 15th Street and Texas Avenue, but the driver sped away.

Police did not pursue the vehicle, but a few minutes later officers spotted it on the parking lot at the Lowe’s store at 2600 Range Line Road.

A passenger in the car stayed with the vehicle after the driver ran, police said.

A search of the vehicle turned up items suspected of being stolen in Newton County burglaries.

The passenger was arrested, and charges of receiving stolen property were being sought against her. Charges of receiving stolen property, fleeing police, careless driving and driving with a revoked license were being sought against the driver, who police said remained at large Thursday.
