Webb City teacher charged with sexual contact with student

Teacher resigns after relationship becomes public

WEBB CITY, Mo. — A former Webb City High School choir teacher was charged Tuesday in Jasper County Circuit Court with sexual contact with a student.

According to a probable cause statement and Webb City police, Carrie Njoroge, 30, Oronogo, had consensual sexual intercourse with an 18-year old male student in her office at Webb City High School during the evening hours of April 15.

The student allegedly told law enforcement that he and Njoroge had participated in an ongoing relationship for approximately three months. The relationship involved oral sex on multiple occasions and sexual intercourse on April 15, according to the affidavit.

Superintendent Tony Rossetti confirmed Wednesday that Njoroge had been employed with the district for seven years and had recently been serving as the high school choir teacher.

He said administrators placed Njoroge on administrative leave on April 17, after they received notification of “allegations of misconduct,” and informed local law enforcement. He said Njoroge resigned her position the following day.

Citing student privacy laws and Njoroge’s pending charges, Rossetti said he could not comment further on the allegations.

Rossetti said the district will continue to cooperate with Webb City police and other local law enforcement agencies in the investigation.

“Needless to say, the district is both shocked and saddened by these events,” he said in a statement released to media Wednesday morning. “However, we will continue to work with local authorities to bring resolution and accountability to all involved.”
