Newton County coroner rules man’s death suicide

NEOSHO, Mo. — The Newton County coroner is ruling the death of a man, whose body was discovered inside a vehicle in some woods in Neosho, a suicide.

Coroner Mark Bridges said Charles D. Clawson, 45, of Anderson, died of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Clawson’s body was found Sunday afternoon inside a snow-covered vehicle about a half-mile down a trail through some woods off Malcolm Mosby Drive, according to the Neosho Police Department. The coroner said a hose connected to the exhaust pipe was strung to a window of the vehicle.

Clawson had been reported missing by a family member in McDonald County several days previously. Authorities were uncertain how long he had been deceased before the discovery of the body.

Police received a call Sunday about a suspicious vehicle in the woods and discovered the body about 1 p.m. Officers obtained a four-wheel-drive vehicle from the Neosho Fire Department to get down the mud-covered trail to the location of the vehicle.
