Police: Woman brandished gun in store restroom

A 33-year-old woman was charged with a felony weapon offense after she allegedly waved a loaded handgun in the restroom of a Wal-Mart store in Joplin and let it be known that she was “not afraid to use it.”

Angela Stratton was arrested about 2 a.m. Sunday as she emerged from the store at 1501 S. Range Line Road.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said witnesses reported that Stratton was waving a gun about in the women’s restroom of the store. A witness said Stratton stated that she was not afraid to use the weapon.

Niess said the alleged threat apparently was not directed at anyone in particular. He said officers found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in Stratton’s possession when she was stopped outside the store.

Stratton was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. She posted a $3,000 bond Sunday night and was released pending a court appearance.
