Seneca teen killed, two others injured in early-morning crash

SENECA, Mo. — One teen was killed and two other teens were injured in a single-car accident at 4:05 a.m. today on Gum Road, eight miles south of Joplin in Newton County, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Dalton W. Coe, 15, Seneca, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Brian Atherton.

Delaney R. Doty, 14, and Deven T. Hindbaugh, 15, both of Seneca, also sustained moderate injuries in the accident and were taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, the patrol said.

The accident occurred when the vehicle that Hindbaugh was driving crossed the centerline and then overcorrected. The car left the roadway, overturned and then struck a tree, the patrol said.
