A Joplin man returning to his home in the 200 block of North Pearl Avenue on Tuesday afternoon encountered two men inside his home, police said.
One of the men fled out the back door, but James Laipple, 31, was able to keep the other one there until police arrived and placed him under arrest.
Police Lt. Brian Lewis said Laipple recognized the suspect who fled, leading to his arrest as well a short time later.
Charged with second-degree burglary were William M. Johnson, 33, and Leonard Whiting, 20, both of Joplin.
Johnson had outstanding warrants from Oklahoma charging him with obtaining property by deception and receiving or holding a lost or mislaid card.
He remained in custody Wednesday at the Joplin City Jail on bonds totaling $4,500.
Whiting remained jailed on a $3,500 bond.
