PITTSBURG, Kan. — Police say they have tied a suspect arrested over the weekend in Pittsburg to at least 11 thefts from vehicles.
The arrest was made about 6:15 a.m. Saturday while officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were responding to a report of an attempted vehicle break-in in the 100 block of Elmwood Drive. The owner of a truck heard his vehicle’s alarm activate and saw a man running away.
Officers found a suspect near Madison and Oak streets, and arrested him. The arrest led to the recovery of property believed to have been taken in 11 or more vehicle break-ins on the south side of the city, including iPods, cellphones, GPS units, prescription medication, jewelry and cash.
Keith A. Brown, 21, of Pittsburg, has been charged with 11 counts of vehicle burglary, 11 counts of theft, criminal damage and obstruction. He was being held at the Crawford County Jail with bond set at $22,000.
Police said in a news release that investigators expect to tie Brown to additional vehicle break-ins. Some of the recovered property has been returned to victims, police said.
