Seligman man killed when hit by vehicle






 

    Arkansas State Police say a 74-year-old man from Missouri was struck by a car and killed Thursday night when he tried to walk across U.S. Highway 71 in Northwest Arkansas.

Truman Patterson, of Seligman, was walking across the highway near Springdale when he was struck by a vehicle. State police said a light rain was falling at the time, and the driver did not see Patterson until it was too late.

• Two Newton County residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9:25 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 60, four miles west of Neosho, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

One of the drivers involved, Linda S. Taylor, 55, of Granby, and her passenger, Robert B. Eberle, 55, of Neosho, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the state patrol said.

Their westbound car collided with a westbound tractor-trailer truck driven by Carl A. Watson, 49, of Seneca, when Watson attempted to pass them as they were making a left turn, the patrol said.

• Two men were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 2:15 a.m. Friday on Interstate 44, three miles east of Mount Vernon in Lawrence County, the state patrol said.

The driver of the vehicle, Hunter C. Smith, 21, of Carthage, and a passenger, Victor M. Bustamonte, 31, of Springfield, were taken to Mercy Hospital Springfield, the patrol said.

Their westbound pickup truck ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned, the patrol said.

• Four Oklahoma residents were injured in a single-vehicle accident at 11:05 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 44, a mile west of Sarcoxie in Jasper County, the state patrol said.

The driver of the vehicle, Sendie E. Margaryan, 75, and passengers Tammie L. Chidester, 44, Karen E. Mathis, 60, and Jackie L. Shrum, 60, all of Bartlesville, Okla., were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Their westbound sport-utility vehicle ran off the road, struck a cable in the median and overturned, the patrol said.
