A Kansas City man waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Jasper County Circuit Court on a drug-trafficking charge.
Deanthany R. Ramey, 27, waived the hearing on a charge of first-degree trafficking and was ordered bound over for trial by Associate Circuit Judge Richard Copeland. The judge set the defendant’s initial appearance in a trial division of the court for Dec. 17.
A probable-cause affidavit alleges that Joplin police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation Feb. 9 in the 1200 block of West 10th Street, and two men got out and fled. Ramey and another Kansas City man, Tarey L. Johnson, 20, eventually were tracked down, arrested and charged in connection with 12.6 grams of crack cocaine, an ounce of marijuana, a handgun and $2,000 cash allegedly found in the vehicle.
Johnson also waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday on a lesser felony drug offense that he is facing in the case. He also was ordered bound over for trial with an initial appearance Dec. 17 in a trial division of the court.
