Crash on interstate hobbles traffic flow

JOPLIN, Mo. — An accident at the 8.4-mile marker on Interstate 44, involving an overturned tractor-trailer unit, is blocking one westbound lane of traffic on the interstate, police said in a statement released this afternoon.

Joplin police said the interstate will be down to one lane for westbound traffic until later today. Drivers are urged to avoid the area if at all possible.

Police said the cause of the crash is unknown at this time. The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries, police said.

It does not appear the semi-truck was carrying any hazardous materials, police said.
