Joplin man faces charge of sexually assaulting child

A 29-year-old man was charged this week with sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 14 after an investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.

Kenneth R. Arnhart, 2409 S. Texas Ave., Apartment C, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree statutory rape.

Arnhart remained in custody Thursday at the Jasper County Jail with bond set at $25,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 24 in Jasper County Circuit Court.

A probable-cause affidavit alleges that Arnhart sexually abused the girl sometime in November or December of last year at a residence near Carthage. The girl told investigators that he had sexually assaulted her “numerous times” beginning when she was in kindergarten. She said he told her that he would be doing it to her more as she grew older, according to the affidavit.
