Occupants of home escape injury in lightning strike

ORONOGO, Mo. — The occupants of a residence in Oronogo escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when lightning struck a chain-link fence that conducted the charge to two corners of their house.

Capt. Clay Arst of the Oronogo Fire District said firefighters were called at 3:23 p.m. to a home on Prairie Meadow Lane after lightning struck near the center of town.

“The fire was out on our arrival,” Arst said.

He said the southwest and northwest corners of the single-story house caught fire from the lightning strike, but the fires quickly burned out, with only minor damage to the residence. No injuries were reported, he said.
