The Jasper County prosecutor’s office has filed felony drug charges against three suspects arrested this past week by Joplin police.
Clifford M. Metcalf, 27, 1110 S. Empire Ave., was charged with creation of a controlled substance after police allegedly discovered components of a methamphetamine lab and 22 grams of a rock-like substance inside a vehicle he was driving.
Joplin police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Metcalf was stopped for a brake-light violation Monday afternoon in the 100 block of West 10th Street. Police said a drug-sniffing dog alerted on his vehicle, leading to the search and his arrest.
Clinton G. Leedy, 22, 2939 Ironton Lane, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine after an arrest Tuesday night in the 2300 block of East Seventh Street. Niess said Leedy was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and a bag of methamphetamine allegedly was found in his possession during booking procedures at Joplin City Jail.
Jesse J. Sparks, 30, 1228 S. Kansas Ave., was charged with possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture methamphetamine Thursday morning near the intersection of B Street and Wall Avenue. Niess said Sparks, who appeared to an officer to be under the influence of meth, was carrying a cardboard box containing components of a meth lab.
