Rural Joplin man assessed sentence in registration case

A rural Joplin man pleaded guilty Monday to failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Larry D. McLallen Jr., 43, changed his plea to guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court in a plea deal with the prosecutor’s office.

Under terms of the agreement, the defendant waived his right to a sentencing-assessment report, and his prison time was capped at two years.

McLallen was charged in February when a sheriff’s deputy learned that he was not living at 26049 Fortune Lane as stated on his registration with the Jasper County sheriff’s office.

McLallen is required to register his address with the sheriff’s office because of convictions in 1987 and 1988 in Jackson County for forcible rape or sodomy.
