Derailment work prompts closure of street sections

A train derailment caused the closure of stretches of Murphy Boulevard and Minnesota Avenue on Wednesday for repair work.

Joplin police Cpl. Dan Haskins said three to four cars of a train ran off the track because of a break in the line.

Sections of Murphy Boulevard and Minnesota Avenue were closed all day while repairs were being made.

No injuries were reported.

Spokesmen for Kansas City Southern Railway, which owns the line, and its contractor, RailAmerica, could not be reached for details Wednesday.
