    NEVADA, Mo. — Drug task force agents and sheriff’s deputies arrested a parolee in Nevada on drug and weapon charges Thursday while seizing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia at locations in Harwood and Schell City.

  • Police say arrest solves two vehicle-theft cases

    Police believe they solved two stolen vehicle cases with the arrest of a suspect Friday following a brief vehicle pursuit and crash on the southwest side of Joplin. About 10:20 a.m., an officer spotted a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck near Petro truck stop on Highway 43. The truck had been reported stolen less than three hours earlier from the parking garage at Freeman Hospital West.

  • Assault on officer leaves him unconscious; manhunt for suspect crosses Missouri-Oklahoma border

    A suspect wanted on charges in Arkansas left a police officer unconscious early Friday morning outside a convenience store in Seneca and then ran off into Oklahoma. Authorities on both sides of the Missouri-Oklahoma line were still searching for Cory A. Rantz, 25, late Friday afternoon.

  • Goodman man killed in traffic accident east of Anderson

    A Goodman resident was killed and another man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 9 p.m. Tuesday on Indian Creek Road, a mile east of Anderson in McDonald County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

  • Defendant bound over for trial in sex abuse case

    A Jasper County judge found probable cause at a hearing Thursday for a rural Carthage man to stand trial on charges that he sexually abused a young woman. Associate Circuit Judge Richard Copeland ordered Hector J. Gonzalez, 50, to stand trial on three counts of deviate sexual assault at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin.

  • Grand jury indicts Miami bank robbery suspect

    A federal grand jury has indicted a suspect in a bank robbery attempt last year in Miami that led to a fatal crash. An indictment handed up this week in U.S. District Court in Tulsa charges Francis H. Dishmon, 51, of Tulsa, with attempted bank robbery and killing a truck driver while attempting to avoid apprehension.

    A 71-year-old Joplin woman was injured in a single-car accident at 8:08 a.m. Tuesday on McClelland Boulevard at 32nd Street, according to a Joplin police report.
