Freeman seeking nursing nominees
Freeman Health System is accepting nominations for its Excellence in Nursing Awards.
Categories are advanced practice RN/certified nurse anesthetist; community/home care/nonclinical RN; education RN; emergency room RN; intensive care unit RN; management RN; maternal/child RN; medical RN; perioperative RN; psychiatric RN; student RN; subacute/geriatric RN; surgical RN; LPN; and lifetime achievement in nursing.
To nominate a nurse, people may visit www.freemannurses.com or call (417) 347-6621 for a form. The deadline for nominations is March 21.

Empire District Electric Co. has announced several retirements.
Jim Scott, line foreman for Neosho Line Operations, retired after nearly 40 years with the company. He started with Empire in 1968.
Oscar Virgin, an electrician foreman for Neosho Substation Maintenance, retired after 45 years. He started at Empire in 1962.
Sue Felker, senior customer service representative in Joplin Customer Service, retired after nearly 15 years. She started with Empire in 1993.
Greg Kirk, journeyman electrician at the Riverton Power Plant, retired after more than 30 years. He started at Empire in 1978.
John Hogan, plant operator at the Asbury Power Plant, retired after nearly 30 years. He started with Empire in 1978.
Aline Davidson, senior customer service representative, retired after more than 30 years. She started with Empire in 1977.
The Missouri Motor Carriers Association recently announced its annual safety awards for 2007.
Joe Chitwood, of Monett, a driver for O&S Trucking, was named January driver of the month. Thomas Phillips, of Saginaw, a driver for Transport Distribution Co., was February driver of the month. Jack McBride, of Goodman, a driver for Sitton Motor Lines, was April driver of the month. Ralph Conduff, of Carthage, a driver for D&D Sexton, was May driver of the month. Mark Hohensee, of Monett, a driver for O&S Trucking, was August driver of the month. Bobby Waynick, of Oronogo, a driver for Transport Distribution Co., was November driver of the month.
Danny Sexton, with D&D Sexton in Carthage, was presented the Safety Director of the Year award for his companys safety-related programs. Sitton Motor Lines in Joplin won the Fleet Safety Contest for the best no-accident record during 2006 and 2007.
EaglePicher recently honored employees for service.
Four people were honored for 40 years of service. They were Carol Bingham, John Bourassa, James Degruson and Billie Lester.
Eleven people were honored for 35 years of service. They were Patsy Barbee, Mary Cunningham, Paul Edens, Connie Farren, Lawrence Foulks, William Gilmore, William Iman, Donna Myers, Carol Norris, Michael Phillips and Donald Smith.
Three people were honored for 30 years of service. They were Kenneth Bailey, John Bastin and David Nixon.
Re/Max Classic recently held its mid-state awards banquet, and several local agents were honored.
Roland Miller, in Carthage, was given the 2007 cooperative spirit award and the 100 percent club award. Scott Binns, of Joplin, was given the 2007 cooperative spirit award. Tami Adams, of Carthage, was honored with the 2007 recruiter of the year for Missouri and the 2007 platinum club award.
Cindy Hollingshead, of Joplin, and Sherry Fury and Connie Shull, both of Carthage, were all honored with 2007 executive club awards. Gay Lynn Dawson, of Carthage, was given the 100 percent club award.
